“Make the City Better” Awards Ceremony was founded by China Institute of City Competitiveness in Hong Kong in 2011. It is a high-end city awards ceremony with international influence. It aims at reviewing and summarizing achievements of China's urban construction and development, praising city governments and leaders that have made outstanding contribution to promoting city comprehensive competitiveness, city growth competitiveness, reform and innovation, credit construction, happiness construction, security construction, ecological construction, investment promotion, appropriate business livable city, appropriate tourism working city and quality life in the last year, making Chinese cities develop in the direction of internationalization, modernization and branding and highlighting the important role on the world economic stage of Chinese cities.
With the tenet and concept of “Serving the City, Promoting the City, Improving the City” and with the purpose of being “The First Awards Ceremony of China City”, city awards ceremony is held once a year.
The first “Make the City Better” Awards Ceremony was held in World Trade Center, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong on December 15, 2011. Gao Yuchen deputy commissioner of Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic Of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Liu Hanqi, deputy director of culture and sports propaganda department of Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Ling Jiaqin, director of Planning Department, Hong Kong, Gui Qiangfang, president of CICC, and Xue Fengxuan, vice president of CICC, awarded for winning cities. City leaders and representatives like Huang Yebin, Huizhou municipal party Committee Secretary, Guo Ruimin, mayor of Xinyang, Xu Jiaai, mayor of Jinhua, Zhou Jiankun, mayor of Anshun, Sun De, deputy mayor of Zhaoqing, Li Dexi, deputy mayor of Mudanjiang, Zheng Riqiang, deputy mayor of Zhanjiang, Ma Lisheng deputy secretary-general of the Xuzhou municipal government, Huang Yi, deputy secretary-general of the Qinzhou municipal government, Tan Qixian, deputy secretary of the standing committee of CPC Bijie, Cao Zhiming, deputy secretary-general of the Lhasa municipal government, Liu Binggong, deputy director of Rizhao environmental protection department, Kang Lifeng, deputy director of Xian Travel and Tourism Administration, Ju Shuling, sub-inspector of Dalian Municipal General Office, and Sun Yu, Qingdao government representative, were present at the awards ceremony and came to the stage to receive the awards.
The second “Make the City Better” Awards Ceremony was held in World Trade Center, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong on December 5, 2012. Sun Wenxiu, deputy director of Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong S.A.R. Economic Affair Department, and Gui Qiangfang, president of CICC, awarded for winning cities. City leaders and representatives like Huang Yebin, Huizhou municipal party Committee Secretary, Qiao Xinjiang, mayor of Xinyang, Tan Tiejun, mayor of Meizhou, Wei Wei, deputy mayor of Harbin, Sun Bin, deputy mayor of Hefei, Du Minqi, deputy mayor of Meizhou, Chen Xuanqun, deputy mayor of Zhaoqing, Guo Weiyi, deputy mayor of Anshun, Zhao Shiyuan, secretary general of Mudanjiang municipal government, Xu Xiaodong, secretary general of Liaocheng municipal government, Xing Jianya, deputy secretary general of Jinan municipal government, Zhang Jun, secretary general of Qingdao municipal government, Ma Lisheng, deputy secretary-general of the Xuzhou municipal government, and Wang Yong, deputy secretary-general of the Fushun municipal government, were present at the awards ceremony and came to the stage to receive the awards. During the awards ceremony, medias at home and abroad scrambled to report the event, which caused a strong reaction in the society and played a positive role in inspiring and motivating cities to be better.
The third “Make the City Better” Awards Ceremony was held in in Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center on December 5, 2013. Liu Hanqi, deputy director of culture and sports propaganda department of Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Gui Qiangfang, president of CICC, awarded for winning cities. City leaders and representatives like Mai Jiaomeng, mayor of Huizhou, Qiao Xinjiang, mayor of Xinyang, Guo Feng, mayor of Zhaoqing, Wang Zhencai, deputy party secretary of Siping, Huang Yanhang, Huizhou municipal committee and propaganda minister, Feng Qipu, Xuzhou municipal committee and propaganda minister, Du Minqi, deputy mayor of Meizhou, Sun Zhenyong, deputy mayor of Jiamusi, Zhang Zhenan, deputy secretary-general of the Qingdao municipal government, Li Changwu, deputy secretary-general of the Mudanjiang municipal government, Xu Xiaodong, deputy secretary-general of the Liaocheng municipal government, Huang Yi, deputy secretary-general of the Qinzhou municipal government, Wei Dazhi, member of Shenzhen municipal people's congress, and Chang Guanglin, Liupanshui government representative, were present at the awards ceremony and came to the stage to receive the awards. The awards ceremony run successfully and caused strong reaction in the society.
The fourth “Make the City Better” Awards Ceremony was held in in Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center on December 18, 2014. Yang Yi, deputy director of Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong S.A.R. Economic Affair Department, and Gui Qiangfang, president of CICC, awarded for winning cities. City leaders and representatives like Mai Jiaomeng, mayor of Huizhou, Yang Hong, Party Chief of Futian District, Shenzhen, Feng Qipu, Xuzhou municipal committee and propaganda minister, Yang Huizhong, Xinyang municipal committee, propaganda minister and deputy mayor, Ma Zhanjiang, Qiqihar municipal committee and deputy mayor, Chen Xuanqun, deputy mayor of Zhaoqing, Wang Yu, deputy mayor of Siping, Wang Zhendong, deputy director of the Information Office of Qingdao, Yin Daozhong, deputy director of the Information Office of Hefei, Zhong Hong, county party secretary of Yangshuo, Jiang Julian, county magistrate of Boluo, Xu Yi, county magistrate of Huidong, Song Zongjun, deputy mayor of Jimo, Dong Yuqian, CPPCC Chairman Libo county, Pan Liming, deputy county mayor of Tonglu, Wu Qiang, deputy director of garrison headquarters of Karamay, Zhang Tongzhen, secretary for food safety of Jiamusi, Mao Shihong, director of Shenzhen office of Yichang people's government, and Lv Yin, Mudanjiang government representative, were present at the awards ceremony and came to the stage to receive the awards. The awards ceremony run successfully and caused strong reaction in the society.
The fifth “Make the City Better” Awards Ceremony was held in in Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center on December 9, 2015. Gui Qiangfang, president of CICC, Yang Yi, deputy director of Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong S.A.R. Economic Affair Department, and Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee, Hong Kong legislator and chairman of New People's Party, awarded for winning cities. City leaders and representatives like Mai Jiaomeng, mayor of Huizhou, Liu Guodong, deputy party secretary of Xinyang, Sun De, deputy director of Zhaoqing People's Congress Standing, Huang Yanhang, deputy party secretary of Huizhou, Feng Qipu, Member of the standing committee of Xuzhou municipal Party committee and propaganda department director, Zhao Gongqiao, executive vice mayor of Anshun, He Guosen, vice mayor of Qingyuan, Chen Daiwen, vice mayor of Jimusi, Bian Jian, municipal party secretary of Cixi, Han Junfeng, deputy secretary-general of the Siping municipal government, Yang Jijun, deputy secretary-general of the Qiqihar municipal government, Yao Kaitao, deputy secretary-general of the Meizhou municipal government, Wu Jing, deputy secretary-general of the Liupanshui municipal government, Zhong Hong, county party secretary of Yangshuo, Zhang Xin, deputy of Information Office of Qingdao Municipal Propaganda Department, Liu Feng, director of First Room of secretary in Hefei Municipal General Office, Liu Guanghui, director of the Liaocheng tourism administration, Mao Shihong, director of Shenzhen office of Yichang people's government, and Wei Dazhi, member of Shenzhen municipal people's congress, were present at the awards ceremony and came to the stage to receive the awards. The atmosphere during the ceremony kept warm and run successfully.
The host of city awards ceremony sets up a bridge for urban communication and cooperation and plays a positive role in displaying city's image and charm.
